Chinook Salmon

The Chinook salmon is the largest species in the Pacific salmon genus Oncorhynchus. The common name refers to the Chinookan peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Other vernacular names for the species include king salmon and Tyee salmon.
In our region we have spring, summer and fall runs of king salmon. We fish for summer run king salmon on the Columbia River starting July 1st.
