Kokanee
Scientific Name: Oncorhynchus nerka
Kokanee is a word from the Okanagan language referring to land-locked lake populations of sockeye salmon. They are also known as "silvers" or silver salmon. Basically kokanee are sockeye salmon that never go to the ocean. They reside in lakes or reservoirs and then migrate into tributaries to spawn. We fish for kokanee at Lake Chelan which offers good numbers of 10-14 inch fish.
