Sockeye Salmon
Scientific name: Oncorhynchus nerka
Sockeye salmon are one of the smaller species of Pacific salmon. They are also known as blueback salmon or red salmon due to their coloration in the ocean or when spawning. In the ocean they are bright silver with a bluish tinted back. When spawning they turn a brilliant red color. These are a fan favorite on the dinner table! We start fishing for sockeye sometime in July and we fish the Columbia River and at Lake Wenatchee.
